My 23 year old daughter isn’t launching and I’m worried that she’s going to get stuck at home taking care of her mother.

She’s very bright. She wants to work in Hotel management and she is a natural. She intrinsically understands the issues and how to address them. She understands how to deal with and how to manage people. The problem is that the kid gets lazy. She dropped out of college with a little less than 18 months to go. She got into a funk - maybe it was guy problems, there were certainly room mate problems — bottom line is that she stopped going to class. She didn’t tell any of us either. We were getting ready to go for graduation when she finally came clean.

So anyway, no she’s back living here. After almost a year of applying for jobs in the hotel industry and not getting anything in Orlando or Las Vegas, she took a job at a grocery store. Her rationale was she needed money handling experience. From time to time, she applies for other jobs at hotels, some local, most in Las Vegas. She claims that she wants to go back to finish her degree and get into the industry.

Like I said, the girl is lazy. She sits around all day, reading Tumblr and fan fiction on her phone.
She needs to move out and get a fucking life. She has no friends (that she sees), no dates, no social life except what she does with us.

Here’s the kicker. I plan on moving out soon. I’ve had it with my wife, but that is another story. If my daughter is still living here, she will be stuck here. I don’t want that for her. I see what it did to her aunt (my sister-in-law) who has a pathetic life. I don’t want that for my daughter.

Forcing her out doesn’t make sense (yet) because it won’t move her toward an end goal. If she isn’t moving toward her desired profession, then she’ll have a perfect excuse to move back with her mother when I leave. It has to come from her. I just don’t see it happening.

I really don’t like this, but at some point, I’m going to have to put my happiness above hers. That goes against my nature - maybe for a short time or something small, I can be a dick, but not for something potentially life changing.

I’m very frustrated.
