I absolutely loathe when my parents or somebody else says “other people have it way worse than you” or “children are starving in africa” when I’m upset about something but like does that make me feel any better??? no. Telling me not to be sad because other people have it worse is like telling me not to be happy because other people have it better. TELLING ME OTHER PEOPLE HAVE IT WORSE DOES NOT MAKE MY FEELINGS MAGICALLY DISAPPEAR! IT DOES NO HELP WHATSOEVER. Yes, I acknowledge that other people do have it way, way worse than me but when I’m upset about something, telling me something like that WON’T CHANGE the fact that I’m upset. They have what they have, and I have what I have, telling me they have it worse doesn’t change the fact that I have what I have. Something awful in my world might be a blessing in theirs, but IT DOESNT CHANGE THE FACT THAT ITS A NIGHTMARE IN MY WORLD. geezus, when will adults understand this and stop using that stereotypical line as an excuse to ignore our problems??

This tactic isn’t limited to adults to children.Adults do this to other adults. When used correctly and sparingly it can wake you up.Most of the time though its used to be condescending. Its patronizing and discrediting,Post a confession or rant now! It’s completely anonymous.
