I hate it when girls (typically teenagers on Tumblr) think they’re all special and unique because they’re “different” and “not like other girls”. They usually say stuff like “All the girls at my school are sluts! I’m the only one who likes anime and classic literature and CoD and hoodies and Green Day and blah blah blah…” Basically these “unique” girls look down on anyone who wears pink or makeup or likes pop music. It’s ridiculous. They think they’re being all rebellious by “defying society” or some bull like that but really they’re just enforcing the idea that all females have to constantly compete. They also have a very black-and-white view of the world; either you’re a geeky antisocial emo anime fan with black hair and minimal makeup or you’re a bleach-blonde One Direction-crazed cheerleader stereotype. In these girls’ minds, there is literally no in between. Females are not sorted into two archetypes. People can like both “mainstream” bands like Selena Gomez or Jay Z AND “punk/emo” bands like BVB and MCR SIMULTANEOUSLY!!! Or rather, they can have entirely different tastes! Music is not sorted into two categories. Anyone who claims to love music with an intimate passion wouldn’t simplify music into two arbitrary groups like that. The same goes for everything else. Despite what books and movies may tell you, a person doesn’t have to be either super-edgy or massively girly. Nothing is absolute; a girl can like “girly” things such as wearing frilly pink lace and also like “tomboyish” things like camo and video games at the same time. There are also loads of other personality types out there. If you were to ask an acquaintance to, as objectively as possible, describe your personality, the person would not simply say “edgy and unique” or “girly and slutty”. The only place people are one defining trait throughout is fiction. Real, tangible people are complex and multi-sided.
In summary: You aren’t special because you have slightly different tastes than the mainstream. Don’t judge people you barely know for liking things you don’t. It only makes you look like an attention whore.
